Ghent River Hotel gives high priority to the health and safety of our guests and staff. We do everything in our power to prevent risks of contamination and spread. In order to welcome you as safely as possible, we are fully adapted to the new situation. The guidelines and recommendations of the Belgian government are followed in order to guarantee you a carefree and safe stay. Below you will find the measures we have taken as a hotel as well as some rules we ask our guests to follow.

Can hotels be open?
Yes, according to government guidelines it is allowed to have hotels open. Since June 8th, all types of accommodation (hotels, B&Bs, campsites, holiday homes ...) can be reopened. 

Can restaurants located in hotels be open?
Yes, eating and drinking establishments in hotels may be open for hotel guests. This is also included in the emergency regulations of the various security regions.

From when are Belgians allowed to travel back home?
From 8 June, Belgians may return to Belgium for one or more days. 

From when are tourists allowed to travel back to and from Belgium?
From 15 June, Belgium will open its borders for travel from the European Union, including the United Kingdom and the four other Schengen countries (Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Iceland and Norway). It is up to each country to decide whether or not to open its borders. In order to know the situation in a specific country, it is advisable to consult the official websites of the country itself or of Foreign Affairs. The conditions for travel outside Europe are not yet clear as of 08/06/2020.

Is visiting a hotel safe?
Ghent River Hotel has set up the hotel in accordance with the guidelines of the Belgian government. We have done everything possible to limit the risks to a minimum.  

Is it possible to order dishes and drinks from the menu in my hotel room?
Yes, it is possible. Ghent River Hotel offers room service and works together with restaurant Savarin for this. 

Can I still make use of the hotel's breakfast buffet?
Yes, of course you can have breakfast with us. Only, because of hygiene measures, we offer you the possibility to choose a breakfast in our breakfast room or a breakfast to take away. The breakfast is buffet style but is served by the staff and with respect for the social distance of 1.5m.  The hotel asks you to wear a mouth mask when entering the breakfast room. 


How do I know which facilities are open per hotel?
The facilities in our hotels are limited.

Are pets allowed?
Pets are not allowed.

Could the hotels close again?
No, hotels that have already opened will remain open as long as the situation is favourable and the health of guests and staff can be guaranteed.

Can I visit a museum in Ghent? 
Museums and cultural attractions, such as historic buildings, have been reopened under strict conditions since 18 May 2020. Feel free to ask our reception desk for more information about opening hours and possibly booking your visit. They are here to help you.

Can I pay electronically? 
We strongly advise you to pay electronically as much as possible. We provide contactless or electronic payment (if you still want to pay with cash, please provide token) and this always at check-in.

Please note: if you wish to use public transport and you are over 12 years old, you are required to wear a mouth mask in all stations, at stops and on buses and trams.

Can I cancel or change my booking? 
To reassure you in this uncertain period, Ghent River Hotel offers you the possibility to cancel free of charge up to 48H before arrival. You can always change your booking to a later date free of charge. 

If I have a cold or a cough, can I change my booking on the day of arrival?
Yes, you can change your booking until the day of arrival via the Ghent River Hotel reception on 003292661010 and change your date of choice. In the event that the new date or destination is more expensive than the original booking, we will have to charge you for this difference. This guarantee is only valid on bookings made via or our hotel websites.
